Leader in PC Power Management Solutions Secures Support from the European Union’s Largest Research and Innovation Program
PowerPlug, a leader in PC power management solutions, announced today that it has won funding from Horizons 2020 to further develop PowerCloud, its upcoming IT management product. Recognized as the European Union’s largest research and innovation program, Horizons 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe’s global competitiveness. It is structured to eliminate red tape and help new projects get off the ground quickly and achieve results faster.
PowerPlug is a Phase 2 beneficiary of the Horizon 2020 initiative and will use the funds to further develop PowerCloud, a revolutionary platform prototype that will enable the management of IT and smart devices as part of a global energy management system. PowerPlug’s PowerCloud system will provide manageability for the IT, visibility and usage patterns to energy managers, and unique energy management and demand response features for service providers and utilities.
The funds were awarded under Horizon 2020’s grant category aimed at stimulating the innovation of SMEs for a low-carbon energy system. PowerPlug was one of eight companies based in Israel to receive funding in Phase 2.
“The Horizon 2020 initiative is making significant investments in innovation and in smart and sustainable technologies that will have a significant impact on our economy, environment, and global society,” said Eyal Yechieli, chief executive officer, PowerPlug. “We are honored to have been selected. Funding from the initiative will allow us to continue to carry out our worldwide mission to help organizations to dramatically reduce the environmental and financial impact of power consumption.”
Since 2009, PowerPlug has worked with leading hospitals, medical companies, academic institutions, municipalities, government agencies, mobile operators, and IT companies to implement smart solutions to decrease electricity production, the single greatest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. According to Yechieli, managing the power consumption of 1000 PCs with PowerPlug Pro, the company’s flagship software reduces emissions by up to 300 tons each year.
PowerPlug monitors its contribution to the environment on an ongoing basis. Through the implementation of the company’s PC power management solutions, it has saved 58.41 GWh, kept 10,611 cars off the road, and saved 26,528 trees.
